Men’s Health Week.

I’m taking strides to save men’s lives.

Prostate cancer is Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer. 1 in 5 men are likely to be diagnosed by 85.

That’s why, this Men’s Health Week, I’m making every step count.

My Updates

Final Update

Thursday 27th Jun
Well this could be the last update for this Challenge. Happily I have reached my Fundraising Goal which in the midst of a Cost of Living Crisis I am very grateful for. Every Dollar raised for this cause is important.
I did not reach my Kilometre goal, but in my defence I did have a small operation on the 18 June and was not allowed to hike for a week after that on advice of my Medical Team.
It is with some fear and trepidation that I now wait to see what the next Challenge PCFA will come up with. But no matter what it is I will give it a good hard go.

Today is Day 5

Friday 14th Jun
Well Day 3 was a bit of a disaster. It was blowing a Gale - seriously - a genuine Gale in Wollongong. Not that this would normally stop me walking mind, but the other factor was I really pulled up sore after Day 2. So sadly no walking on Day 3.

Day 4 was better weather wise so trotted out another 5k. No improvement on Day two's Personal Best however managed about the same time as on Day 1, so happy with that.

Today's effort was huge. No improvement on time, but although the old legs were screaming, still managed the same time as yesterday. Which I was very happy with as on the return leg the wind picked up considerably and I found myself walking into an incredibly strong Southerly face on. The time was not representative of the effort required.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 2

Tuesday 11th Jun
So today's effort saw me improve my PB by two minutes. That is yesterday I managed 5 km in 1 hour and 12 minutes, and today I did the 5 km in 1 hour and 10 minutes. The wind played a part I think as it was a lot stronger than yesterday, but did it help or hinder the walk? Frankly I am not sure. Maybe the out was worse and the return was better. I just don't know. But I guess the next few days will show which was it goes.

The First Day

Monday 10th Jun
First day of this week's Challenge. Coming off an enforced no activity period due to sore ankle. But we don't let things like that stop us. The Nurse rubbed in some Fisio Cream shoved on my new Ankle Support and away I went.
The target is 50km for the week, but I don't think that is achievable at this stage. So I only managed 5 km today. But we will see how I pull up and revise the targets each day and see what happens. Whatever that may be, I intend to complete the 50km as soon as possible, even though that may take more than the week. Today I got up to the Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse and return. Photos to follow.
